How to Develop Your Best Wise-Self
Your Best Wise Self
You have known your conscious, aware part of yourself all your life. You know what you know. However, most adults have stifled, stuffed, or denied many of their painful and dysfunctional childhood experiences. Most adults have unconscious thoughts and beliefs, and emotional triggers. Many have trouble regulating their emotions. This, of course, inhibits our best-self, our wise-self, or our innate wisdom to well function.
Your Inner Child
Committing to inner-child work can help with making the unconscious conscious so we can better choose our beliefs, words, and deeds. Consider looking at, How to Develop a Relationship with Your Inner-Child, to explored meeting and nurturing a connection to your inner-child.
Engaging in inner-child work is sometimes alluded to by phrases such as to know myself, being my own best friend, re-parenting myself, making the unconscious, conscious, discovering my free-self and my wounded-self, my wounded child, healing my childhood wounds, self-acceptance, self-love, or listening to my emotional-self.
Your Best Wise Self
In this piece we explore developing another part of ourselves; our inner, wise and knowing self. This is our best-self and our potential unfolding. This part can help us evolve and move confidently into the future. The wise-self embraces the wisdom of books read, courses taken, and role models noticed, while accepting the passed down insights of mentors.
This part of us knows that role models and mentors have and had knowledge and experiences that we desire in our future. The wise-self imagines our tomorrow, dreams, and hopes. Your wise-self makes an effective guide and leader of your life. It helps to imagine your wise-self watching over you, witnessing your present-self, and guiding you in your next steps.
To Prepare:
Use a process to deeply relax. If you don’t have one use How to Create Your Place of Inner Peace to prepare yourself to develop and meet your wise-self. Then follow the script below or change it to better support you.
Or you can use this version of the guided meditation by me on my YouTube channel. Click here.
Your Best Wise-Self Meditation
In a relaxed state remind yourself of your Place of Inner Peace. Then notice a road or path. Maybe you need to image going out-of-doors to access this road or path. Notice what you see in this moment; breezy, sunny, starlit, foggy, green, trees, flowers. Notice what you hear; water, birds, wind. Just notice.
Now imagine there is a figure in the distance on the path ahead of you. This person has walked, seen, been, and done what you desire. Your wise self is strong, confident and at peace with taking risks, making errors, learning and growing.
Notice, if you can, details of your wise-self. Notice mannerisms and appearance such as hair, body size and clothing. Notice any emotions. Notice if this wise part seems familiar.
Notice what feelings rise in you.
If you imagine your wise-self with your inner-child, sense any feelings that surface. What is the response of your wise . . . to and of your inner-child?
Now imagine that you step into the beingness of your wise-self. Notice this wise self looking at you, right now. Your wisdom-self is witnessing you; noticing your thoughts, your feelings, your potential . . . with compassion and hope.
Notice that your wise-self desires to help, to guide and champion you.
Notice what you want your wise self to see, to know, to understand. In what ways might you allow your wisdom-self to help you become unstuck, forgive yourself or support you in moving forward?
From this place of wisdom notice your present experiences, resources, strengths, gifts and support people in your life.
Notice the messages of support and guidance.
If you are unable to accept the support and guidance of your wise-self, pause and allow yourself to simply accept the possibility of a satisfying and meaningful future.
Sense that one day this wise part of yourself will grow into who you want to be and will be.
Know that your wise self is your wise witness and is available to you now, tomorrow and in your future.
Notice a part of your body where you can anchor the essence of this grounded knowing and wisdom; just notice where in your body it lands–maybe your third eye in your forehead, the symbol of a higher awareness or consciousness.
If during your daily busyness you lose the presence of your wise self, know you can return to your Place of Inner Peace to reinforce your commitment to craft a fulfilling future.
Begin to notice your breath. Inhale some energizing breaths. Count to three as you exhale on the count of three, open your eyes.
To help bring you back to the present moment, please look around the room and name out loud three objects.
Re-entering The Present Moment
Notice the part of your body where you anchored your awareness of your wise self. You are one and the same person. Remind yourself that you can tap into your innate wisdom when you want to fortify yourself to move into your future.
Now is the time to make notes, perhaps in a journal of your images, ideas, dreams and hopes.
Conclusion
Sometimes I imagine my wise-self chatting with my Grandma Effie at the farmhouse kitchen table. Other times I imagine my wise-self walking along a country road with my mentor, Gwendolyn Jansma. But most often, I have imaginings of my wise-self telling my Little Patsy that there is a brighter future and coaching my present-self to get off the couch to make an inspiring day.
In fact, your wise-self can protect you, help heal your inner-child, advise you in times of struggle, guide you in making hard decisions, and lead you to a better future. Your wise-self also encourages you to acknowledge and celebrate all you have done, know and are. Your wise-self encourages you to share your gifts and strengths with an uncertain world.
With the help of your wise-self, not only will you better realize the wonder of you, you will be enabled to achieve what you once never imagined or thought possible.
Ultimately, if you are willing to dance with your present-self, your inner-child and your future, wise-self you will bring about not only healing and transformation, but a remarkable unfolding of a life well lived. In the meantime, seize the day!

I loved the guided meditation! I’ve been working on allowing my other parts let my wise self lead. This meditation was very helpful in creating the image of my wise self and building trust to let it lead.
